The invention of a boat – think of all the possibilities it has brought to the mankind: we have crossed rivers, lakes and seas and eventually transported bigger and bigger goods around the world. Not to mention fishing on a large scale or the contacts it has created to foreign cultures by expeditions. It's hard to know when the first boats were built, but our ancestors discovered early on that materials, such as wood or papyrus, could be used to build watercraft that floated by themselves making them suitable for moving on the water.
