Hasui Kawase was one of modern Japan's most important and prolific printmakers. He was a prominent designer of the shin-hanga ("new prints") movement, whose artists depicted traditional subjects with a style influenced by Western art. Like many earlier ukiyo-e prints, Hasui's works were commonly landscapes, but displayed atmospheric effects and natural lighting.
Did you know that artists only receive single-digit commission amounts from most online galleries? While rent and food prices etc. are on the rise, many freelance artists don't make enough money to make ends meet.
That's why we at Photocircle have a different model. While we also need to offer competitive prices, our artists decide for themselves the amount of their commissions. So if the prices of our pictures vary sometimes, you now know why.
By the way: Japanese Vintage Art donates 10% of the proceeds to our reforestation project in Ethiopia, where we hope to have planted 500,000 trees by the end of 2023.
