This photo is taken in Kashgar, Xinjiang. The old city of Kashgar combines the characteristics of Han-Tang dynasties, ancient Rome and modern life of Uighur. The old city of Kashgar is crisscrossed with streets and alleys. Most of the residential buildings are made of brick and wood. Many traditional residential buildings there have a history of more than one hundred years, and is the only labyrinth city block featured by Islamic culture. Today, the residents of the old city still dwell in earth-built houses and abide by the traditional customs of thousands of years. Some of the shots in the film The Kite Runner are taken here.
