Urban Architecture in Berlin: Colorful Facades and Gray Past

This image presents a fascinating perspective on the characteristic prefabricated housing estates in Marzahn, Berlin. The composition highlights the strict lines and geometric arrangement of the buildings, while the freshly painted, colorful facades provide a vibrant contrast to the former gray surroundings. The colors in soft azure and blue tones give the image a friendly and inviting mood, symbolizing the transformation of the district. This depiction captures the connection between past and present and would look great in a modern living room or office.

Vibrant Art for Inspiring Living Spaces

The harmonious color combination and clear lines make this photo an ideal eye-catcher. It fits perfectly in spaces that aim to create a calm yet stimulating atmosphere.

The image is also available as a premium print on acrylic glass or aluminum dibond, enhancing the colors even further. Also available in other versions. If you feel uncertain about your product choice, we are happy to advise you personally.

Artist's description:
M A R Z A H N is a part of East Berlin from1949. It remained a rural site until from 1977 vast housing estates were built in the typical ‘Plattenbau’ style on its fields by order of the East German authorities. Due to this very strict style of construction the individual houses looking very similar to each other. On top of this, colours for the facades were forbidden by the East German authorities, so this housing estates became very well known as a grey and depressing place to live in. After the reunion in 1990 the government invested loads of money to bring the place back to life. The majority of the houses is in a good condition now although they are still similar to each other and the area around provides a depressing vibe. With this photo series I wanted to call out the similarity of the houses and the contrast between the depressing vibe and the now colourful facades.
