The city of Venice is located in the lagoon of Venice, a bay of almost 120 islands in the north of Adriatic Sea. Of its total area of 415 km² almost 260 km² is water, and about 270,000 people call Venice their home. In the city there are about 150 canals and over 400 bridges. Due to its favourable geographical location, the northern Italian city of Venice used to be an important trading and naval power until the discovery of America, and it was considered an essential bridge between the Orient and the Occident. Venice experienced its golden age in the 15th century - economically as well as politically and culturally; silk weaving, glass blowing, ship building, textile dyeing, the trade of spices and luxury goods, and in particular the book printing still in its infancy were important industries for the "Queen of the Adriatic". During this period, most of the many palaces for which Venice is still famous today were created. "The time has come, but there is still beauty here," Lord Byron once wrote about Venice. And so "La Serenissima" ("The Most Serene One") today attracts crowds of tourists to your urban area. Every year up to 16 million people visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The focal point and main attraction of Venice is the famous St. Mark's Square with its impressive architecture, countless cafes and pigeons. In this collection you will find handpicked photo art and illustrations of St. Mark's Square and the rest of Venice to commemorate the city of love as wall art.
