Emotional snapshot from Dhaka: Human aid in distress
In this striking black-and-white photo by Jakob Berr, we see a soldier of the Bangladeshi army evacuating an elderly woman from a building. The scene takes place in Old Dhaka, where the narrow and tall structures, standing side by side like a house of cards, pose the risk of further collapse. The focus on human connection amidst destruction conveys a calm yet poignant atmosphere that prompts reflection.

Artist's description:
A soldier of the Bangladeshi army evacuates an elderly woman from a building adjacent to a collapsed house in Old Dhaka, Bangladesh. With all the buildings in the area standing wall-to-wall, the narrow and tall structures in this historic part of the Bangladeshi capital support each other like cards in a card house, putting the buildings next to the collapsed house number 81 in immediate danger of coming down themselves.
