Country: Colombia
Artist's description:
The Wayuu are an indigenous people who live on the Guajira Peninsula in South America. Part of the peninsula belongs to Colombia. The Wayuu are increasingly exposed to targeted threats, murders and forced displacement. The country there is rich in salt and important for drug trafficking with Venezuela. The Colombian part is also home to the northernmost point of South America. Nearby there is a huge sand dune. The way up there is arduous. One hardly suspects that right behind it there is the sea. One neither hears it nor sees it. The landscape there is very mystical and beautiful. There they are at home, the Wayuu.
