I actually wanted to photograph the trucks without a driver. As always, I set up my tripod and at the same time a curious crowd gathered around me. The Pakistanis watched what I was doing attentively and the drivers often stood directly in front of the vehicle to be photographed by the “Westerner”. At first this stressed me out a lot, but eventually I developed a method: first a short, spontaneous photo session with the drivers, then a clear word of command from me to take my actual picture undisturbed. The really amazing thing was that they didn't even want to see the finished picture - they just wanted a Westerner to photograph them.
When the little boy sat down on the bumper, a bizarre picture emerged. In his traditional, brightly colored clothes, he clearly stood out and sat there calmly, at peace with himself, while I was able to capture the moment. The freshly cleaned, polished truck and the already stunning colors of the vehicle were made even more intense by the boy's presence. In some of my pictures, I had the drivers sit in the cabs, integrating them into the scenery.
