It’s a bit of a romance, really. We go way back – Schülerpaten Berlin e.V. and Photocircle partnered up right in the beginning, when Photocircle was still an ambitious little toddler, ready to change the way we buy and sell photography. Ever since, we’ve funded 3 projects with our partner organization and are excited to kick off number 4 now: Schülerpaten sets up one-on-one mentoring between German speaking volunteers and children with a migration background in Berlin. As of late, mentees also include refugee children, who have found a new home in Berlin.
By supporting Schülerpaten Berlin with € 450, we help arrange for individual tutoring for children with a migration background. Volunteers provide individual tutoring once a week for at least 90 minutes and help with every day problems. Since the mentoring takes place in the children’s own homes, prejudice is reduced on both sides and close relationships develop. The organization also provides financial means for recreational activities between mentor and mentee, so that their relationship is not solely restricted to tutoring. The mentoring lasts for at least a year and can thus have a sustainable impact. Schülerpaten Berlin e.V. qualifies their volunteers through seminars, which convey educational skills as well as knowledge and understanding of the Arab culture.
The training and placement of one volunteer costs €150. With your support, Schülerpaten Berlin e.V. will soon be able to train and place tutors for three more children.
