San Francisco – wall art of the city by the bay

San Francisco is located on the west coast of the United States, in the state of California. By inhabiting more than 800,000 people, San Francisco has become the fourth largest city in the Golden State. The city was named after the Saint Francis of Assisi, who came from Spain. Inside and outside the US, this city by the bay is best known for being far less American with its narrow streets, cable cars, sidewalk cafes, fine dining and art. Associated with L'Art de Vivre and the old world, might describe the roots of San Francisco’s hippie movement of the 60s. At the height of this era, musical fames such as Jimmy Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane called this city their home. Today, San Francisco is home to well-known industries including Levi's, VISA and twitter. The southern metropolitan region also houses the famous Silicon Valley, one of the world's most important IT and engineering hubs; Apple, Google, eBay, Adobe, and Facebook are just a fraction of the gigantic list of successful companies headquartered in the bay.

Either way, the symbol of this cosmopolitan city is the famous Golden Gate Bridge. The oversized suspension bridge was completed in 1937, leading to the fine suburban area called Sausalito.
