Over eight million people live in this large city. The capital of the United Kingdom is located on the Thames, in the south-east of England, and it is one of the world's most important financial and commercial centres. The city is also a cultural metropolis and abounds with world-class universities that attract year after year considerable numbers of international students. Furthermore, London is full of beautiful and eye-catching buildings and monuments, and it is often mentioned that a square kilometre consists of 100 different ages. For example, those who roam the Thames will come across both very old and very young architectural structures - and from time to time even less attractive remnants from the past decades. However, that does not disturb the cityscape, on the contrary. This colourful, sometimes arbitrary mixture, emphasizes only the cultural, political, ethnic and religious diversity of London. Our photographers have picked out some of the finest photographs of London for you, and you can even see the London Eye from a variety of perspectives. In addition to the architectural beauty of the metropolis of millions, two further characteristics are immediately apparent: London’s cultural diversity and the cosmopolitanism of its inhabitants.
