Study Sustainability

Worldwide, including Germany, bees are dying at an unusual high rate for unknown reasons. Our biodiversity and ultimately our survival largely depend on the world of  the bees. The current state of our environment and society is a mirror image of the state of the bees. The bee is an ambassador when it comes to sustainable development.

What started as a non-for-profit educational project on sustainibility for children in 2011, adolescents and adults by FINE e.V., the Frankfurt Institute for Sustainable Development e.V., has expanded a lot by now. The world of the bees makes sustainability tangible and easier to understand. Environmental protection, social responsibility and economic activity are interdependent.

More than education: In our suburban 'Bienenretter' garden in Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen we do ,not only talk but also practice sustainability.  Since 2016 Bienenretter Manufaktur produces authentic, bee-friendly natural cosmetic products using the valuable natural resources of the bees in our 'Bienenretter' garden, such as beeswax, propolis and honey, together with other necessary natural raw materials from fairtrade and environment friendly sources.

Recognized commitment: Our project is not only about education, bees and honey. It is a contribution to implement sustainable development in the city.  Bienenretter has been officially recognized by the German UNESCO Commission with the UN - dekade Education Award for Sustainable Development rated by the German Government with the quality mark 'Werkstatt N'.
